One roll at a time, under a red safelight. We develop black-and-white and colour 35mm for photographers who want the shadows, the accidents, and the edge markings left intact.

The small lab with the long drying line
Keep the light in it.
Halcyon has hand-developed 35mm from the same converted print room in Grünerløkka since 1994. We still clip every strip to dry, still read every negative before it reaches a scanner.
What you hand us
A roll is a little envelope of time.
We do not rush that envelope through a vending machine. Every order starts with the camera, the stock, and what you were trying to hold onto.
Write “push +1”, “first roll”, or “the red coat at dusk” on the envelope. It gives the person at the tank something useful to protect.

Chemistry has a memory.
Developer is not a preset. It has a temperature, a replenishment history, a tiredness. Maja keeps a pencil ledger beside Tank 2: dilution, room temperature, agitation, and anything a roll whispered when it came off the reel.
That is how an overcast February afternoon on Tri-X can stay soft, while a pushed Portra roll keeps its lantern-coloured windows instead of turning them into chalk.
The scan is a translation
Leave the frame lines on.
Our standard scan carries the whole negative: rebate, dust, a sliver of the frame before and after. It is evidence of a camera meeting a moment, not an audition for a filter.
“A clean file can still remember the grain.”
From the counter notebook
The regulars are the real archive.
“Please do not correct the green cast. It is my grandmother’s kitchen exactly as I remember it.”
— Elise, roll 10462
“Shot this outside the old post office at 02:13. The flare is the point.”
— Søren, roll 10477
“I put the wrong film in a disposable camera. Surprise me kindly.”
— unsigned, roll 10480

The proof before the scan.
Before a negative becomes a file, Maja reads the little evidence in it: the flare, the edge, the almost-hidden face in a dark doorway.
17A · The blue-hour bus shelter; the flare belongs to the frame.
